Alaska Cruise 2005
(Click on the pictures for a larger view)

After our kayaking adventure we dropped by the local horse stables for a look around.

They were nice enough to show us around and introduce us to their newest addition.

May 16, 2005 - A delay with boarding our ship turned out to be a good thing.  The Princess Cruise Line sent us to the Alyeska Lodge and Ski Resort to take the tram ride to the top of the mountain for lunch.  The views of the surrounding mountains were spectacular...

...not a bad 'lunch time' view.

After lunch we start to see some of our first glaciers.

Once we are at Whittier we board our ship and are on our way.

May 17, 2005 - As we enter College Fjord we watch the glaciers "calving." It sounds just like thunder.  We see many otters and later in the day a pod of killer whales.

A better look at one of the glaciers at College Fjord (there were approximately 7 glaciers at College Fjord).

With half the worlds glaciers in Alaska, the State of Alaska has more glaciers than anyone else in the world.

May 18, 2005 - Glacier Bay, Alaska.  The glaciers are amazing and very blue.

During our day we see pods of Orca Whales, otters, sea lions, and many eagles.

The glaciers are tremendous in size.

Many of the glaciers were 'calving,' breaking off large chunks of ice into the ocean.

The unique part of this glacier was the 'water spout' in the center of it constantly flowing and creating this cave.

The landscape of a glacier is something to see.

May 18, 2005 - Skagway and the White Pass Scenic Railway Tour.  We take the 'narrow gage track train' and ride through White Pass Summit thru Canada Customs on to the Yukon Territory.  We stop at Caribou Crossing for a barbecue lunch.

A view of the train as it travels.

May 20, 2005 - Juneau, the Capital of Alaska.  Photo Safari By Land & Sea Tour.  Some pictures of Juneau and the Mendenhall Glacier then onto a large pontoon boat and head out to look for whales.  We see lots of Sea Lions and Humpback Whales.

Unfortunately, the whale was faster than the photographer.  We even had a whale 'breach' right next to our boat but all I got for a picture was the splash.

After our Photo Safari we head up the mountain that overlooks Juneau harbor on the Mount Roberts Tramway.  This is our cruise ship the Sun Princess.
