World Tour - July 2005
(Click on the pictures for a larger view)

July 1, 2005 - I finally begin my journey up the James W. Dalton Highway (accompanied by 3 other riders).  430 miles of dirt, gravel, mud, and asphalt surrounded by some of Alaska's most impressive scenery.

Our group crossing the Artic Circle - Thierry and Bob (Bretagne, France), Myself and Jeremiah (Colorado).

Working my way up the Dalton Highway.

The Alaska Pipeline follows alongside the Dalton Highway for many miles.  Most of it is underground, but certain sections where the permafrost is too thick was put topside.

Atigun Pass - beautiful and very cold.

The view from our campsite - 100 miles North of Coldfoot, Alaska.  That is snow on the ground only a few hundred yards from our camp - July 2, 2005.

Getting ready to 'bunk down' for the evening at our camp.

Bob working on his Honda, Africa Twin with the ultimate motorcycle repair tool - an axe! Hey, in the field sometimes you have to improvise.

Lots and lots of Caribou outside of Deadhorse, Alaska.

Standing outside of the Prudhoe Bay Post Office in Deadhorse, Alaska.  Only a few more miles and I will be standing in the Beaufort Sea in the Artic Ocean.

July 2, 2005 - Finally, as far north as a motorcycle can go, the Beaufort Sea.  If you look really close over my left shoulder you can see the North Pole only 1200 miles away.

Yes, that is ice I am standing on, and yes it was very cold.

July 3, 2005 - starting back to Fairbanks, Alaska.

July 3, 2005 - headed south on the Dalton Highway.

July 3, 2005 - headed south on the Dalton Highway.

July 3, 2005 - Wildfire season in Alaska.  The have a 'natural burn' policy in Alaska.  If the fire was started by nature and it is not effecting anyones home or property, they let it burn.

July 3, 2005 - our visibility on sections of the Dalton Highway that were burning.

Once you get past the miles and miles of smoke you are treated to more fantastic views.
